DELIVER COLLECTIBLES THE BILL SIMMONS WAY
To honor the seventy-year history of Simmons Foods and founder Bill Simmons, we created a collectible, smart toy called The Van. We based it on the original delivery Bill Simmons used in the company’s beginning.
MAKING THE PROCESS COST-EFFICIENT
At PriZm Packaging, our team created hundreds of these vans in an extensive process:
1.
We researched premade die casts, but discovered that 3D-printing the vans would be more cost-effective. PriZm Packaging ordered premade wheels; however, every other part of the Van was custom-made in-house. Our team printed the body and a mold for a thermos-form clear plastic pull-down for the van windows.
2.
We printed a two-piece 3D mold for the clam-shell packaging and designed graphic decals on the headlights and taillight.
3.
We applied primer and painted the body and chassis.
The Assembly
Included:
- Attaching the windows and wheels.
- Applying seven decals per van.
- Folding the printed base.
Final Process
After assembling all the pieces with heat sealing on four sides, we trimmed them using a custom metal cutting die and hydraulic press.
